Designed by h2o architects for the French Ministry of Agriculture, the Press Conference Room was created to be both modern and long lasting in terms of design. Located in a Paris building that is listed as a historical monument, the firm had to fit modern conveniences into a space that occupies a 19th century building.
In order to make it work, they built a creatively designed suspended ceiling to hide unsightly equipment, lighting and ventilation that the room required. The ceiling is composed of boxes hung at various heights that have random holes punched in them. This feature is not only a striking design element, it’s also functional by allowing light to pass through to the room. What a clever way to fix a problem!
