suckerPUNCH: Describe your project.
ATztudio (fernanda de la TORRE JIMENEZ, armando GARCIA OKADA): The following project proposes a Performing Arts School in one of the most touristic, exciting but also conflictive neighborhoods of Barcelona city.
The Idea of implementing a school of this kind in “El Raval” district, arises from the social problems and the improvement plans on the area.
The concept of the project is creating space through density. A cell or component with a fibrous condition and structural potential was designed and later was optimized following the logic of biological systems (vascular system in plants and humans).
5 gradual variations of the cell were generated; from less to more density, with their respective connecting points.
To be able to create project of such dimensions, where the main idea was to design the building’s skin from repetitive components that could form a pattern responsive to climatic forces, it was necessary to propose a main structure that could support it.
Having a main structure and an outer skin layer of cells designed by the same logic system facilitates the subdivision of space and creates an interesting layering effect.
sP: What or who influenced this project?
